Maryland ranks No. 36 among the best states in the country for doing business, according to CNBC’s annual comparison of all 50 states.
The state fell four places from No. 32 last year in the 2026 America’s Top States for Business rankings.
Maryland earned its highest marks for quality of life, ranking No. 12 nationally, followed by technology and innovation at No. 13 and access to capital at No. 15.
The state struggled most in economy, where it ranked No. 49. It also placed No. 44 for the cost of doing business and No. 33 for business friendliness.
