Maryland came in at No. 12 on a recent ranking of 2026’s best states for public education from ConsumerAffairs.
The Old Line State dropped three spots compared to 2025, falling between Pennsylvania at No. 11 and Maine at No. 13.
The analysis considered K-12 academic outcomes, school funding and resources, higher education, and school safety.
Maryland’s best-ranked category was school funding, where it came in at No. 8, and its worst-ranked category was school safety, where it was No. 48.
