Today at the #NGASummerMeeting, Maryland Governor Wes Moore was elected the 2026-27 Chair of the National Governors Association.
Under Gov. Moore as chair, the NGA announced its “Campaign for America”, which will work across party lines to strengthen and restore civic bonds. The campaign’s foundational pillar, “Service United,” is Gov. Moore’s signature initiative, launching today with $10 million in philanthropic support to kickstart its efforts.
Modeled on Maryland’s first-in-the-nation service year program, Service United is a bipartisan call to governors to build state-based service programs that do three things at once: meet real community needs, connect young people to skills and careers, and forge bonds across our differences.
The stakes are real: millions of young Americans are neither in school nor working, even as key sectors face workforce shortages and an AI transition reshapes the economy.
