Prince George’s County leaders took another step Tuesday toward bringing the proposed Sphere entertainment venue to National Harbor, advancing a measure that would create a special taxing district to help finance the project.
“I move to move this out of COW (Committee of the Whole) with no recommendation,” Vice Chair Eric Olson said before the committee voted.
The measure now heads to the full County Council for consideration on Monday.
If approved by the full council, the resolution would establish a special taxing district surrounding the proposed Sphere and create a fund that could eventually help pay for part of the project through future tax revenue generated in the area.
County officials described the measure as the first step in creating the financial framework needed to support the project.
