DC Council has ordered the city’s Chief Financial Officer to issue a report looking into the feasibility of a business activity tax.
It comes as D.C. faces tough budget decisions and a predicted decline in revenue over the next several years.
The request was included as part of the Budget Support Act, which the council passed on Tuesday.
“There’s been a lot of talk over the last couple of years by some advocacy groups that we should adopt his business activity tax,” said Chairman Phil Mendelson. “In my conversations with the CFO, he has said that implementing a business activity tax is actually very complex.”
