In the coming years Wawa is embarking on “the most aggressive growth” in its history, aiming to essentially double its store count within the decade, CEO Chris Gheysens told the Business Journal.
The Delaware County, Pennslyvania-based convenience store chain currently has about 965 stores throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida and Washington, D.C. It will look to operate roughly 1,800 locations by 2030 — eventually opening up to 100 a year — and is rolling out additional locations in existing markets as well as new territories, Gheysens said.
Wawa already has 300 new sites under its control across its established territory, he added, and the company has its eye on breaking into new states (yes, plural). For one, customers can look toward seeing new locations start to “fill in the market” between Virginia and Florida throughout the decade, Gheysens said.
