Prince George’s County Council Chair Jolene Ivey is suspending her campaign in the special election race for county executive to replace now U.S. Senator Angela Alsobrooks.

Ivey told 7News there are a variety of reasons for her decision. They are personal, financial and practical.

She said she will be endorsing one of the other candidates in the race but is not yet ready to make that choice public.

Ivey who was the District 5 Councilmember, won a special election in 2024 to one of two at-large seats on the county council. Had she been elected county executive, that would have triggered yet another special election.
