Greater Baltimore’s highest-profile company is poised to become its largest public company this year — likely by a comfortable margin.
Under Armour Inc. upped its 2016 revenue projections Thursday to $5 billion, up from a previous outlook of $4.95 billion. Although the bump in the projection is relatively small, 1 percent, it signals company leadership is increasingly confident in growth this year after a strong start in footwear and apparel sales.
If that growth materializes, it will be massive. Revenue of $5 billion would be 26 percent above the $3.96 billion Under Armour reported for 2015. It would also have the sportswear maker leapfrogging area giants like Sparks-based spice maker McCormick & Co. Inc. and Baltimore-based money manager T. Rowe Price Group Inc. on the list of largest area public companies.
