President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday said he is nominating former U.S. Sen. Kelly Loeffler as the new administrator of the Small Business Administration, an agency with which she’s had some experience during her time in the nation”s capital
Trump said in a post on Truth Social that Loeffler was a “tremendous fighter” in the Senate and lauded what he called a 25-year career in finance and entrepreneurship while also crediting her with helping him win the state of Georgia in the most-recent election. He also weighed in on what he envisioned her role would be while heading the SBA.
“Kelly will bring her experience in business and Washington to reduce red tape, unleash opportunity for our small businesses to grow, innovate and thrive. She will focus on ensuring that SBA is accountable to taxpayers by cracking down on waste, fraud and regulatory overreach,” Trump said on Truth Social.
Loeffler worked as an executive at Intercontinental Exchange and helped lead its IPO on the New York Stock Exchange. She join the company in 2002, when it had fewer than 100 employees, and saw it grow to have more than 10,000. In 2018, she led the launch of cryptocurrency software and exchange firm Bakkt, an entity that was rumored to be a potential acquisition target by Truth Social, of which Trump owns a substantial stake.
