SUN: MPRP State Transmission Line Approval Schedule Released, Pushing Project Completion Into 2029

After months of delays, the Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project is on track to complete all required state surveys — but the newly approved procedural schedule puts completion of the project more than a year later than power grid operator PJM Interconnection’s requested June 2027 in-service date.

The Maryland Public Service Commission approved a revised schedule Thursday for the review of the proposed 67-mile transmission line through Baltimore, Carroll and Frederick counties. Utility company PSEG is seeking approval by the commission for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity to built the project.

Although PSEG confirmed in August that remaining known legal hurdles for fieldwork have been cleared, months of legal disputes over survey access have set the project back significantly from that goal. Hundreds of landowners previously blocked surveyors from entering their land.
