Prince George’s County has picked a pair of developers to overhaul the former Maryland-National Capital Park Police headquarters in Riverdale into a new mixed-use project, which should someday become a transit-oriented destination due to its proximity to a planned Purple Line station.
The Redevelopment Authority of Prince George’s County announced Friday that it’s tapping Bethesda-based Advantage Properties Inc. and Annapolis’s Cove Property Management to take on the project. The development team plans to build a total of 350 units, 250 of which will be affordable, and some retail on the site, though it didn’t disclose a total project cost.
The county has been looking to spark a redevelopment of the property, located where Riverdale Road meets Veterans Highway and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, for several years now, after officials were able to relocate the police headquarters and other county offices elsewhere. The redevelopment authority issued a request for proposals in October 2019 and has been weighing its options ever since.
