Giant Food said Wednesday it is planning to close a warehouse in Baltimore County, eliminating nearly 90 positions as it turns over its pharmacy distribution to an outside company.
The 89 layoffs at the 7100 Ambassador Road warehouse in the Milford Mill area are expected to start at the end of January, said the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, which the company informed of the plans as required by law for mass layoffs.
The cuts were prompted by Giant’s decision to expand its existing relationship with pharmaceutical distributor McKesson Corp., which supplies stores directly, said Giant Food spokesman Jamie Miller.
“It increases store deliveries, improves the supply chain processes and it will improve the fulfillment process for our customers,” he said.
