Maryland officials are moving ahead with efforts to replace Baltimore’s collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge by late 2028, opening up to design and build proposals on Friday.
The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) released its Request for Proposals (RFP) inviting teams to submit proposals for rebuilding the bridge and reconnecting the vital Interstate 695 Baltimore Beltway, officials said.
“Today marks a significant milestone in our efforts to rebuild the Key Bridge and make the Baltimore area whole again,” said Maryland Transportation Secretary Paul J. Wiedefeld in a statement. “[Maryland Department of Transportation] will continue to work closely with our local, state and federal partners as well as local communities to replace the Key Bridge as quickly and safely as possible.”
Qualified teams will need to show state and community officials how they can advance the project’s goal of collaboration, safety, quality, cost, and look, and they will need to submit the request by June 24, officials said.
