Capitol Heights Mayor Shawn Maldon is on a mission to fight for the office he’s been suspended from which members of Capitol Heights Town Council also voted to temporarily abolish.
They did it by creating a charter amendment resolution.
It would give the remaining council members the ability to temporarily appoint a presiding officer and reassign the duties of the mayor until the next election.
Currently, the next election is scheduled for May 2022.
“It’s a step to quiet the residents, I think. It’s a step to remove their vote and I think that’s inappropriate. I think that’s something that should be left to the people,” said Maldon.
