A casino proposal led by Silver Spring media company Urban One Inc. is Richmond’s preferred choice for a new gaming venue.
Virginia’s capital city said Thursday a panel had selected the $600 million One Casino + Resort pitch as its final selection, edging out a bid from Baltimore developer and entertainment operator The Cordish Cos. — the company behind the Live! Casino brand.
In an announcement, the city said its evaluation panel recommended the Urban One pitch because of its “feasibility and sustainability, proposed location, economic development impact, financial revenue impact, and community benefits.”
Richmond voters will decide on whether to move forward with the Urban One project with a question on November’s election ballot.
