Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris said Monday he’s keeping open conversations with both D.C. and Maryland about a new stadium for his team — but that much of the data and surveys he’s looking at are pointing to the District as the preferred location.
“We have a lot of dialogue with everyone and we’re going to keep pushing forward,” Harris said at a press conference in Ashburn, where the team is headquartered. “I kind of keep being transparent of what the surveys say. Obviously, D.C. is in line with the history [of the team] and happens to be the easiest place to get to for most of the fans.”
Harris declined to answer whether he intends to pay for the stadium himself or would look for taxpayer support. He said his open support for legislation to transfer the 177-acre RFK Stadium campus — where the team played during its heyday — from the federal government to the District was about getting D.C. to the point where it could have a discussion about a stadium.
