Organizers of Audi Field said it’s time for it to grow and expand.
With the success of ticket sales behind the Washington Spirit, along with D.C. United’s MLS (Major League Soccer) extending its season, D.C. United is looking to make a massive million-dollar investment towards the field.
“We believe the expansion of Audi Field can truly be transformational for our city,” Danita Johnson, D.C. United’s President of Business Operations, told 7News.
According to documents, Audi Field is seeking public and private funding for the project. Audi Field will “pay no less than $320 million from revenue and other funding, while D.C. would contribute $300 million, about $60 million per year for five years.”
