Nearly a third of MGM National Harbor’s 3,000-plus employees will be table game dealers. Where will they learn their craft? At college.
The Prince George’s Community College Dealer School, launching May 16, is a partnership between the community college and MGM (NYSE: MGM). Led by “seasoned industry professionals,” per a release, the dealer school will offer candidates classes in traditional games such as blackjack, roulette, craps and baccarat.
The school, located in the former Thomas Addison Elementary School building at 7100 Oxon Hill Road, offers an initial six-week blackjack course. Students who pass that class will be able to choose between two tracks — a 12-week craps course, or a combined eight-week roulette and four-week baccarat course.
Dealers must be at least 21 years old, have basic math skills, be comfortable under pressure, and “be able to celebrate with customers when they are winning and losing,” Jeff Elmore, vice president of table games at MGM National Harbor, says in a video message to dealer aspirants posted on Facebook.
