The record for the most-expensive condo ever sold in D.C., set barely two months ago, has already been surpassed.
Penthouse 2C at 3150 South St. NW, the Ritz-Carlton Residences Georgetown, sold Monday for $11 million, beating the previous record — for another penthouse in the same building — set Dec. 30 by $1.5 million.
The buyers: Gerald and Edith Schaeffer, according to public records. Gerald Schaeffer, or Jerry as he is better known, trustee of a revocable trust in his name, owns a 50% interest in the 5,500-square-foot unit, and Edith Schaeffer, trustee of a revocable trust in her name, controls the other 50%, per deed records.
“With this breakthrough sale the sky’s the limit for the strength of the D.C. luxury condominium market,” Christie Weiss of TTR Sotheby’s International Realty, who was among the TTR team to broker the sale, said in an email. “We are in new territory for the first time at $2,000/sf and that is exhilarating.”
