More details on the development of 400 acres at the former Bainbridge Naval Training Center in Cecil County were made public Monday after two decades of uncertainty over the property.
Plans discussed during a meeting of the Bainbridge Development Corp. show a 3.8 million-square-foot industrial and commercial complex in the works for the site located off Interstate 95 in the rural county just below the Delaware state line.
The $300 million project will be the first phase of the redevelopment of the massive property that was used by the U.S. Navy from 1942 through 1976. It is perched on a ridge near the town of Port Deposit, north of the Susquehanna River, and has been dormant for decades because its soil is contaminated.
During a meeting of the nonprofit development group, plans were outlined with a timetable that could begin by mid-2021. That is when environmental cleanup of the 400 acres by the Navy will be complete and a new wastewater treatment plant and water infrastructure lines will be installed.
