Maryland voters will decide whether to legalize recreational marijuana this November.
Statewide referendum question No. 4 is on the ballot for Election Day. As printed on the ballot, the question reads: “Do you favor the legalization of the use of cannabis by an individual who is at least 21 years of age on or after July 1, 2023, in the state of Maryland?”
If voters approve the constitutional amendment, possession of up to 1 1/2 ounces of recreational marijuana would be legal.
It also would remove criminal penalties for up to 2 1/2 ounces of marijuana and create a civil citation. Existing marijuana laws would apply to possession of more than 2 1/2 ounce.
