Virginia drivers will continue to pay the car tax after the Senate Finance and Appropriations Committee voted 10-4 to kill a bill that aimed to phase out the unpopular payments.
The proposed legislation would have provided a refundable credit of up to $150 for single filers and $300 for joint filers during the 2025 to 2027 tax years. The bill targeted individuals earning up to $50,000 and couples earning up to $100,000 annually.
