Chris Van Hollen’s (D-Md.) topped $1 million in the hotly-contested primary race against his House colleague Rep. Donna F. Edwards (D-Md.) to succeed retiring U.S. Sen. Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.) in the U.S. Senate.
Van Hollen is poised to widen the cash gap with Edwards, who has struggled to raise the same kind of money but has shown some strength in recent polling.
The congresswoman’s campaign has not yet released its fourth-quarter numbers.
In total, Van Hollen’s campaign is reporting it raised $1.14 million, nearly 80 percent of which came from Maryland donors representing every county and the city of Baltimore. Van Hollen now has nearly $4 million in cash on hand.
