The University of Maryland Medical Center kicked off a $219 million expansion of its downtown cancer center on Friday with a ceremonial groundbreaking by government officials, hospital leaders and members of the community.
The 198,000-square-foot, nine-story addition will allow UMMC to care for more patients, a necessity as the number of cancer patients treated at the University’s Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center has tripled since 2004.
