Towson University is tapping former Howard County Executive Ken Ulman to help bolster economic development and strengthen ties between the college and fast-growing town.
Through the new partnership, Ulman will be contracted by the university to develop a “placemaking” strategy to strengthen the connectivity between communities, core institutions in Towson and emerging businesses. The partnership is expected to be unveiled on Tuesday and more details will be made available.
Ulman, president of Margrave Strategies, is working on a similar plan with the University of Maryland, College Park. As chief strategy officer for economic development for University of Maryland’s College Park Foundation, Ulman has helped coordinate and advise on major development efforts.
The city of College Park and surrounding region is in the midst of a major development boom, as up to 30 new projects, including new hotels, academic buildings, housing, and office and retail spaces, are being planned or are underway.
