Prince George’s County plans to seek expressions of interest early next month for 60-odd development sites across the suburban Maryland jurisdiction that it is looking to sell to spur development.
“In case you don’t know it, Prince George’s County is the last frontier,” John Mason, business development director for the Prince George’s County Economic Development Corp., told an audience of about 300 at the Junior Tennis Champions Center Wednesday morning. “Everything else is getting built out, and a lot of developers are now coming over into the county to do business from D.C. and what have you. Today I have developers that flew in from New York and Cincinnati to hear about some of these opportunities.”
Mason’s remarks came during what the county billed as its Inaugural Grand Slam, a showcase of surplus properties the county plans to offer for sale. Mason showcased 10 of the roughly 60 properties that will be put up for grabs in the forthcoming RFEI, among them a nearly 6-acre parcel at 6700 Riverdale Road that could be primed for higher-density transit-oriented development given location near a planned Purple Line light rail stop.
Another 6-acre site, 11731 Old Gunpowder Road in Beltsville, would best be developed as commercial or residential, especially if assembled with adjacent vacant land. The property is located at the intersection of Old Gunpowder and Ammendale roads.
