The Maryland Technology Development Corp. board of directors has elected four new executive officers, including its first black chair.
Omar Muhammad, director of the Entrepreneurial Development and Assistance Center at Morgan State University, will serve as the newly elected chair of TEDCO’s board. He replaces Myra Norton, who is CEO of Baltimore tech firm Arena Analytics, and had chaired the state-backed funding group since August 2019. Muhammad said he hopes to build on the integrity and momentum Norton brought to the role.
Muhammad brings extensive experience working with startup founders, small businesses, corporations and government entities to build entrepreneurial ecosystems. He has previously served as a vice president for the Development Credit Fund, a nonprofit that operated a $4 million small business loan fund within Baltimore’s Empowerment Zone. He also has a background in small business counseling, and is a business columnist and contributor for news organizations, including for the Baltimore Business Journal.
