Jason Wright, the first Black person to be president of an NFL team, is out of that position with the Washington Commanders and will leave the organization after the upcoming 2024 season, a team spokesman said.
Wright, hired in August 2020 by disgraced then-owner Daniel Snyder, served through one of the most tumultuous times in any NFL team’s recent history, and initially kept his job after the Josh Harris-led consortium acquired the team in July 2023.
But league insiders always expected Harris to eventually hire his own team, and Harris had execs from his investment firm 26North Partners and Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment intimately involved in Commanders operations from the start.
A search will begin soon for a new president, the club said. Wright will remain on as a senior adviser through the end of this season, focused on finding a naming rights sponsor for the former FedExField and new stadium development.
