The longtime operator of Baltimore’s Royal Farms Arena will lay off its workforce next month ahead of a planned overhaul of the aging downtown landmark.
ASM Global, which has operated the arena for decades but lost a bid for its redevelopment, this week filed a notice with the state to lay off 1,492 workers.
The Work Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) lists an effective date of March 4, shortly after the final game of the CIAA Basketball Tournament, which is set to tip off at the arena later this month. ASM will continue to operate the arena through the end of that five-day event that wraps up on Feb. 26, an ASM Global spokesman said on Friday.
