Changes to the proposed IT and data tax could be on the horizon as negotiations continue ahead of votes in the Senate.
Senate President Bill Ferguson said there are likely going to be some changes to the proposed 3% tax on data and IT services, especially surrounding IP services and sports licensing.
“Over the weekend and through next week I think we will get to where is most appropriate,” he said, noting the goal of the tax is to capture more services as the economy shifts away from being a goods-based economy.
The 3% figure on the data and IT services wouldn’t change, Sen. Ferguson said, but it’s not clear how much a tax on a narrower sector of the industry would generate.
