Whether the Washington Commanders stay put or decamp, Prince George’s County is keen to see the football team’s current stadium site in Landover get a complete mixed-use makeover.
Local land use regulators continue laying the planning groundwork, advancing a process initiated last year, so that, either way, the site will be ready for redevelopment as a placemaking centerpiece along the strategically critical Blue Line corridor. New renderings from county planners, presented at the Planning Board’s Oct. 10 meeting, give a clearer sense of the density and kinds of uses the county has in mind.
“The potential is huge,” Planning Board Chair Peter Shapiro said at Thursday’s meeting.
“Whether there’s a stadium there or not, we envision this site as a major contributor to downtown Largo and the premier sports and entertainment hub for the county,” he told me in a subsequent interview.
