About a year after assuming the top slot at Luminis Health Doctors Community Medical Center, Deneen Richmond is advancing multiple initiatives to improve care for patients in Prince George’s County.
Among them: Bringing behavioral health care to the hospital for the first time, hiring up to staff that expansion and launching a $29 million employee benefits program to strengthen recruitment and retention, attacking health disparities in the community, and laying groundwork to broaden and strengthen services in other areas — including surgical, obstetrical and critical care.
That’s all after joining the Lanham hospital as its acting president in September 2020, then officially becoming president two months later, Richmond said in an interview. “So yes, it was in the middle of a pandemic, but there’s nothing like a crisis to really help you to figure out what you need to do to hit the ground running — and that’s really where my focus has been over the last year.”
