Like many of its destination marketing counterparts, Prince George’s County’s tourism agency is ramping up efforts to attract visitors from within the mid-Atlantic region to offset significant drops in tourist activity during the Covid-19 pandemic.
To capitalize on people’s desire to get outside in a safe manner, Experience Prince George’s launched “Social Distance Here,” in late September to encourage travelers to take advantage of the county’s outdoor amenities, including golfing, hiking, shopping and historical expeditions.
“We know folks are tired of being cooped up. Folks need to get out, but they need to be able to find places that allow them to do it in a way that is healthy,” Leslie Graves, president and CEO of Experience Prince George’s, said in an interview. “The pandemic has put us in a space where we stay inside but it’s also sort of done something to our psyche. Because we are all now concerned about where we go and what happens when we get there, we wanted to make sure we put out a campaign that, by its very language, expressed to everybody what can happen and will happen when they come to Prince George’s County.”
The group is hoping the campaign, created with advertising firm MDB Communications, helps reverse some of the fallout of the coronavirus pandemic that’s ground tourism to a halt.
