A new hospital is coming to Prince George’s County.
Birmingham, Alabama-based Encompass Health Corp. (NYSE: EHC) plans to build a 60-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Bowie, the company said Thursday. It’s slated to open for care in mid-2022.
The facility, to be located near the corner of Melford Boulevard and Marconi Drive, would serve patients recovering from stroke and neurological disorders, brain and spinal cord injuries, amputations and orthopedic conditions, and more. It would offer physical, occupational and speech therapies, as well as 24-hour nursing care to complement existing acute-care services nearby, according to Encompass.
That includes University of Maryland Capital Region Health, which has a large footprint in the area. Its Bowie Health Center, a freestanding emergency medical building, is located about four miles away. Part of the University of Maryland Medical System, it also operates a Laurel campus and is working toward opening a new flagship hospital at Largo Town Center in Upper Marlboro in the spring.
