Prince George’s Community College and construction company Gilbane Building Co. are partnering on scholarships for students working to complete degrees in construction management, engineering and information technology.
Gilbane is contributing a total $60,000 across three years, starting this past fall, to benefit 30 Prince George’s Community College students who need assistance with covering tuition and fees. The scholarships amount to $2,000 per person, split over the course of two semesters, and the community college is now selecting its second cohort of students for the upcoming fall.
“Construction is a white, male-dominated field,” said Ato Pinkrah, Gilbane’s manager of economic inclusion and community affairs for the Mid-Atlantic region, noting that the industry’s gaps are both national and regional. “It’s the right thing to do.”
