Global offshore wind developer Ørsted Offshore North America will increase its investment at Baltimore County’s Tradepoint Atlantic development with a new $14 million offshore wind turbine component center that is intended to create over 100 union construction jobs.
The project adds to the state’s growing offshore wind supply chain and comes as Maryland, backed by the support of Gov. Wes Moore, seeks to become a leader in the emerging industry. Ørsted’s Advanced Foundation Component Center was announced Friday during an event at Tradepoint that also included the signing of several clean energy bills, including one that quadruples Maryland’s offshore wind capacity goals by 2031 to be more competitive with other East Coast states.
“The progress we are about to make doesn’t just speak to now, it speaks to a future where the air is cleaner and our energy grid is more resilient and where our energy is drawn from nature,” Moore said just before signing Senate Bill 0781, the Promoting Offshore Wind Energy Resources (POWER) Act. “A future with work that is empowering, and with wages that are sustainable, and with wealth that is generational.”
