Former City Councilman Nick Mosby is likely to become the newest member of Baltimore’s general assembly delegation Democratic Party officials tapped him for a seat in the House of Delegates.
Mosby, who ran unsuccessfully for mayor last year, was selected by a 4-3 vote by the Democratic Central Committee for the 40th Legislative District, which represents parts of west, south and central Baltimore.
Mosby beat out Tiffany Welch, the daughter of former Councilman Pete Welch, and seven other contenders. The recommendation of Mosby now goes to Gov. Larry Hogan to approve the appointment.
The committee previously chose Gary Brown Jr., an aide for Mayor Catherine Pugh, for the seat. However, he was indicted for violations of campaign finance laws days before he was to be sworn into office.
Prosecutors said Brown deposited a combined $18,000 into the bank accounts of three different family members last year and then used those funds to make contributions to Pugh’s mayoral campaign in their names.
