From April 27 to May 1, 2022, Garin-Hart-Yang conducted a survey among 600 likely Maryland Democratic primary voters. The survey, which was conducted by landline and cell phone from a list of registered Democratic voters, has a margin of error of ±4.1%.
Our recent survey shows that Congressman Brown continues to hold a wide lead and remains the clear front-runner to be the Democratic nominee for attorney general. Given the survey’s margin of error, Congressman Brown’s current 19-point advantage is showing the primary election (and his advantage) is largely unchanged from his 46% to 23% lead in our November 2021 survey.
The following graph shows the current standings in the Democratic primary for attorney general.
Congressman Brown continues to lead by thirty points in the Washington, D.C. media market—led by his massive advantage in his home of Prince George’s County, which has the largest share of Democratic voters in Maryland and he continues to lead in the Baltimore media market.
Congressman Brown garners more than 60% of the vote among Black voters, and he also holds double-digit leads with both men and women. A sizeable share of the electorate (28%) remains undecided, which injects some level of uncertainty as the July 19th primary date approaches. But further survey findings indicate that undecided and soft voters find various aspects of Anthony Brown’s background and platform to be highly appealing, and that he has the potential to grow his support as the campaign gets into gear.
