NBA superstar Kevin Durant would like to be part of a new ownership group for the Washington Commanders.
Durant, who was born in D.C. and grew up in Seat Pleasant, told ESPN on Sunday he “would love to give a bit of my money to be part of the Commanders, but we’ll see.”
Dan and Tanya Snyder, the current co-owners of the NFL franchise, said Wednesday they had retained an affiliate of Bank of America Corp. (NYSE: BAC) to “consider potential transactions” related to the team. The Commanders have told multiple outlets they are “exploring all options,” which would include an outright sale or the offering of minority stakes in the team.
Several potential bidders emerged Thursday, including Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) founder Jeff Bezos (who may potentially team with music mogul Jay-Z on a bid), television station owner Byron Allen and several other groups that came up short earlier this year in their pursuit of the Denver Broncos. That team ultimately went to a group led by Walmart heir Rob Walton for a record $4.65 billion.
