The Maryland Department of Transportation has selected Egis, an international provider of construction and transportation services, to serve as an oversight engineer of the $10 billion Purple Line light-rail project.
As part of a four-year contract announced Thursday, Egis will review technical submissions and drawings as well as perform site inspections for the 16.2-mile project, which will link communities between Bethesda and New Carrollton.
Egis will help make sure the oft-delayed and over-budget project meets quality and safety standards as it reaches completion as well as after it comes online. Egis will work with both Purple Line Partners, the joint venture that is building and will operate the Purple Line, as well as MDOT, the project’s owner.
Yann Jaouan, chief commercial officer for Egis’ U.S. division, referred to his company’s placement on the project as a “critical and highly technical role,” which will be overseen by company experts from the U.S., Canada and Europe.
