The University of Maryland Medical System has tapped a physician who spent the past three decades focused on addressing health inequities as its first-ever chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer.
Dr. Roderick K. King, who currently serves as CEO of the Florida Institute for Health Innovation and holds multiple roles with the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, will step into the role this summer, UMMS announced Wednesday. He will be tasked with helping the health system develop a “long-term roadmap” for diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) that aligns with UMMS’ strategic plan.
Other responsibilities will include integrating DEI work into the health system’s operations, providing guidance on incorporating DEI best practices and developing a training and education strategy focused on “increasing awareness, knowledge and skills of UMMS staff for diversity, equity and inclusion.”
