A Maryland judge said Friday she could not approve the redrawn congressional map that Democrats passed this week, not because she found a problem with it, but because it hasn’t been enacted into law.
The legal wrangling over the Maryland congressional map has left campaigns and voters in limbo as the July primary election, already delayed once due to redistricting legal fights, draws nearer.
Anne Arundel County Senior Judge Lynne Battaglia had thrown out the earlier map passed by Democrats, calling it a “product of extreme partisan gerrymandering.” The Maryland Attorney General’s Office has said it intends to appeal that decision, but legislators passed an alternate map per the judicial orders on a party-line vote Wednesday, ahead of the scheduled hearing Friday.
