The Maryland House has passed the newly redrawn Congressional District map ordered by a judge.
Maryland’s Congressional District map has been called the most gerrymandered in the country. It earned an “F” grade from the nonpartisan Princeton Gerrymandering Project.
The map was approved by the Democrat-controlled legislature in December. It featured convoluted lines drawn to ensure democratic wins in at least seven of the eight districts and just last Friday a judge ruled it unconstitutional and called it “extreme partisan gerrymandering.”
On Tuesday, the legislature worked to hastily approve a new map. Democratic leadership said it was drawn over the weekend to comply with the judge’s order and was adopted by the Senate.
