Luminis Health is pushing forward plans that call for a more than $170 million women’s health tower on its Prince George’s County hospital campus, while starting to raise the funding it needs to deliver it in the coming years.
Luminis Health Doctors Community Medical Center in Lanham (LHDCMC) is now deep into the certificate-of-need process for that expansion with the state of Maryland, after submitting its application to regulators in April. The health system then responded to follow-up questions from the Maryland Health Care Commission and the Health Services Cost Review Commission, the agency that regulates hospital budgets, a Luminis spokesperson told us.
“While we can’t speak for the commission,” the spokesperson said, “we hope to hear a decision by the end of the calendar year.”
The four-story hub would house inpatient obstetrics services, labor and delivery, and postpartum care, according to Luminis. Once construction begins, the women’s health tower is expected to take three to five years to complete.
