Luminis Health has started treating patients in its new Lanham inpatient psychiatric unit, the next step in the health system’s bid to fill gaps in care in Prince George’s County — and as demand for mental health and substance use services continues to exceed the region’s supply.
The health system opened the 16-bed unit Wednesday at its Doctors Community Medical Center, more than six months after debuting outpatient services in a new behavioral health pavilion on the campus.
For its new inpatient services, the hospital is starting with a “soft opening” in which it’s accepting up to four voluntary patients at a time, a spokesperson told us. So far, it’s treated two patients this week, and plans to ramp up its volumes each week with a target of reaching full capacity within about a month or two.
