The Maryland Department of Transportation has tapped a team led by local developer Dean Harrison to complete a transit-oriented project at the Reisterstown Plaza Metro Station in Northwest Baltimore.
MDOT issued a request for proposals last year seeking developers for a major overhaul of the approximately 26-acre site, with responses due in September. A spokesman confirmed the agency received two responses and selected Harrison’s Wabash Development Partners.
Wabash and the state will now enter into negotiations as the sides work toward a master development agreement that would eventually require approval by the Board of Public Works. The entire process could take about a year, according to MDOT.
The state-owned metro station is located at 6300 Wabash Ave., adjacent to an office complex occupied by the Social Security Administration. The opportunity to redevelop the site represents a big opportunity and could serve as a catalyst for further economic development in the Northwest Baltimore community. State officials are eyeing a project similar to the Metro Centre at Owings Mills, a massive redevelopment by David S. Brown Enterprises Ltd. next to the Owings Mills subway station.
