Several D.C. lawmakers want to press pause on the award of a nearly $70 million advertising contract from the D.C. Lottery that had previously attracted a protest by its losing bidder.
D.C. Councilman Kenyan McDuffie, D-Ward 5, introduced a disapproval resolution last week for the lottery’s proposed contract award to a team of companies led by Taoti Creative, forestalling an agreement that was originally set to go into effect Monday. The council now has until mid-January to either cast a vote on the contract or let it become law without taking action.
McDuffie — along with Council Chairman Phil Mendelson, D-At large, and Councilmembers Mary Cheh, D-Ward 3, and Christina Henderson, I-At large — wrote in a memo to the council’s secretary that the resolution is designed to “provide enough time for the council to do its due diligence in its review” of the contract.
They noted they sent questions to the Office of Lottery and Gaming about the contract shortly after it was forwarded to the council on Nov. 18. With the Thanksgiving holiday in the way, they felt “an extended period of review is needed to provide OLG sufficient time to respond.”
