Howard University Hospital is profitable again, making $4.3 million in operating income last year, hospital leaders announced Tuesday — a fact that could make it a more attractive takeover target in the future.
That profit is not much for a hospital of Howard’s size, but it’s a significant milestone for a cash-strapped hospital that reported a $19 million loss in fiscal 2015 and $58 million loss in fiscal 2014. While the hospital saw essentially flat revenue year over year, it had gone on a cost-cutting spree to better align its expenses.
