The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has canceled the solicitation to build a $1.4 billion U.S. Treasury printing plant in Beltsville, according to a Jan. 13 notice on its website.
Leigha Arnold, the corps’ Baltimore District supervisory contract specialist, cited “budgetary constraints and a reduction in the project’s required scope” in a letter about the Bureau of Engraving and Printing job. The solicitation, which received only one bid, was expected to range from $500 million to $1 billion.
“USACE will continue to work in partnership with BEP on a path forward as reevaluations for this project are underway,” the agency states on the Sam.gov solicitation.
The delay could be bad news for Prince George’s County, which will be home to the new plant if it is eventually built. The county has long said it has gotten a smaller share of federal facilities that other jurisdictions in Greater Washington.
