Trayon White announced that he will be running for D.C. city council almost two months after he was expelled from the Ward 8 council seat.
On Sunday, White posted a picture to his Instagram account with a caption that included “Relection [sic] campaign starts tomorrow.
The D.C. Council has unanimously voted to expel White, effective immediately, following a council meeting on February 4. This decision means that White’s role and pay have ended, leaving Ward 8 without its own council representative as of that Tuesday.
The expulsion follows a recommendation from the D.C. Council’s Ad Hoc Committee in December, which came after an independent investigation found “substantial evidence” that White violated council and city rules. In August, the Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested White, 40, for allegedly accepting tens of thousands of dollars in bribes to influence city contracts. White has pleaded not guilty to the federal charge.
